The South African Weather Services has forecast a drop in temperatures in Gauteng for the rest of the week starting tomorrow.

Forecaster Celeste Fourie says a cold front is sweeping across the southern regions of the country.

“We are expecting some cooling to start happening from Wednesday in the south where we can still expect temperatures in the mid to high 20s in the northern parts of Gauteng, but slightly cooler lower 20 temperatures for the southern Gauteng.”

“Going into Thursday, we are expecting further drop in temperatures, but the cold day is coming in on Friday where we are expecting temperatures to be between 18 and 20 degrees for Gauteng,” adds Fourie.

The Weather Services has also issued a warning of damaging winds over the Garden Route, eastern Overberg, parts of the Cape Winelands and southern Central Karoo from today.

The authorities have cautioned the public to heed warnings as the extreme weather conditions are expected to continue until Thursday.

The Western Cape Environmental Affairs MEC, Anton Bredell, says soils are saturated from the recent rains, and they expect trees to be uprooted.

The combination of high waves and strong winds is expected to cause rough sea conditions.
