Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has welcomed the signing of a pledge for cooperation between the three spheres of government to fight crime.
He was speaking in Belhar during the signing of the cooperative agreement.
Winde says the agreement will focus on community driven initiatives, integration of resources and sharing information strategies.
“For me the start of the seventh administration, the time now is for less talk and more action. Our government needs to be joined up as we are at a national level. We need to be joined up and make sure we stand together to fight crime. Our residents need to see us doing that and that means it is time for action.”
This comes as the Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, released the crime statistics for the fourth quarter of 2023/2024 and the first quarter of 2024 and 2025 earlier.
The statistics revealed that the Western Cape is one of the provinces with a high level of crime.
