Friday marks the last day of Chief Justice Raymond Zondo’s career as he retires from his position in the Judiciary.

Zondo’s career was propelled when he was appointed to Chair the State Capture Commission after its establishment in 2018 following the recommendation by the then Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela.

He was then appointed as the Chief Justice in April 2022.

During his farewell dinner earlier this month, to celebrate his 27-year career in the judiciary, Zondo highlighted some of the moments while serving in the Judiciary.

“Of course, greater challenges lay ahead of me when I was chairperson of the commission. I will be eternally grateful for the support. The support we received from the general public of South Africa through very difficult times.”

“That support kept us going even when it was very dark. Because wherever I went, I always met people who said thank you for the job you are doing for the country. That for me was such a motivation that we could not let the people of South Africa down.”
