Corrupt officers are a source of serious concern: Police Minister

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu says officers who are involved in crime are a source of serious concern.

He was speaking at a meeting of Parliament’s Police Portfolio Committee in which the latest crime statistics were discussed.

According to the statistics, from April to June this year more than 6000 people were murdered.

Mchunu says his department has noted the concerns of Members of Parliament that police officers are also involved in crime.

“Understand it to be an extreme worry on our side. When a police officer got killed in KZN, he had been at work all night, knocked off at 7am. At 10am, he was already busy with crime. So we are extremely concerned about [that] … [it is something we] have to work on,” adds Mchunu.
