Nikki Haley, the last Republican candidate running against former United States President Donald Trump for her party’s nomination, has officially dropped out of the race.

The move makes Trump the presumptive nominee to run against Democrat incumbent President Joe Biden this November.

Haley’s decision to quit the race comes after she lost all but one state in the Republican Super Tuesday contests to select the party’s nominee.

Biden’s domination in more than a dozen states that voted in Democratic primaries on Tuesday, means that both he and Trump are close to reaching the delegate count in their parties to officially clinch their respective presidential nominations.

Trump won the delegates in 14 of the 15 contests in play on Tuesday as Biden won the delegates on offer in 15 states that voted in primaries or caucuses this week.

When announcing her exit, Haley encouraged Trump to earn the support of Republicans and Independents who backed her during her campaign.
