BET Award-winning singer Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona popularly known as Makhadzi has refuted the Sport, Arts and Culture Department’s claim that it has supported her financially for the past 14 months.

This is after the department received backlash from the public for not supporting the singer on her recent trip to the BET Awards in the US.

In its defence, the department says it had booked the singer for various national engagements and paid her as much as 230 000.

Makhadzi argues that she only received payment for the services she rendered.

“The controversy started after an interview in which Makhadzi revealed that she didn’t receive any support from the department on her trip to the US. However, the department says in a statement that it has supported the singer by booking her for various national events. The BET award-winning singer says the department’s statement is misleading. She says it creates the impression that she received funding. Makhadzi says she has neither applied for nor received any funding from the department.”
