More than 2 137 000 vaccine doses administered in SA: Health Ministry

The Health Ministry says more than 2 137 000 people have received a vaccination so far in South Africa. Of this number, more than 479 000 have received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine and are fully vaccinated.

The remaining 1.6 million have received the first dose of the two jab Pfizer vaccine.

The number of administered J&J vaccines is expected to increase steeply in the coming days as teachers, admin workers and cleaners at schools are given their single dose vaccine.

More than 580 000 school staff are expected to get vaccinations in the coming two weeks. This was announced this afternoon by Department of Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga.

Meanwhile, South Africa has recorded 13 575 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, representing a positivity rate of 23.2% and bringing the country’s total cases to 1 810 164.
