Several sections of the Table Mountain National Park and the entire Tankwa Karoo National Park in the Western Cape have been closed due to floods and heavy snowfall.

SANParks spokesperson Reynold Thakhuli says the closures include the Cape Point overnight hiking trail, the road to the Overseers Cottage and the roads to Olifantsbos Cottage and the Smitswinkel and Slangkop tented camps. The closures are due to excessive mudslides, overflowing rivers and damage to access roads.

Thakhuli added that all access roads leading to the Tankwa Karoo National Park have been closed due to snowfall.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for further severe weather conditions in the Western Cape today.
