SAWS warns of gale force winds for Garden Route this weekend

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning of strong to gale force winds for the Garden Route that straddles the Eastern and Western Capes this weekend.

Heavy winds and high waves are expected from Saturday.

Winds earlier this week caused mass power outages, damaged electrical lines and uprooted trees in George.

Municipality spokesperson Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe says the George municipality continues addressing various power outages and the cleanup of fallen trees. Currently, no roads are closed. We are addressing a number of power outages in parts of George and Wilderness.”
